OUR GOALS:
• Giving official and complete education to poor children in Cusco
• Being a place of develop for children without opportunities
• Offering a new way for teaching and learning, paying more attention in the emotions
ATTENDANCE MODE:
For this year we have only one class, we are teaching 20 poor children. The majority of these children have parents that are unable to assist them with their homework or education due to illiteracy. Some are orphans and live in the homes of acquaintances in which they are usually treated as employees. Most of the children of our project simply don’t exist to their parents, who are often alcoholics, thieves or drug addicts.
We started with the school only this year (2010). After a lot of work we finally finished the builduing of the first class. All of our children find in our school a place to escape a world of indifference, violence, abuse, and maltreatment. We want to offer opportunities to study, to develop, and to one day live together in harmony. We want every one of the children to be able to say that life is not as bad as they had thought, and that there were hands to help, to protect, and to guide them in this world. We like to think of ourselves as being their parents, siblings, and friends.
WE WANT TO SAY THANKS TO ALL THE PEOPLE THAT GAVE SOME MONEY AND A LOT OF LOVE FOR STARTING WITH THIS PART OF THE PROJECT. EVERY BRICK, WINDOW, DOOR, CHAIR, ETC. IS REAL ONLY BECAUSE YOUR GREAT HEARTS FRIENDS, ONLY BECAUSE OF YOU. THANKS FOR MAKING REAL OUR DREAMS!!!!

SEMI ATTENDANCE MODE:
We offer an alternative form of education in order to reach the street children who are not fortunate enough to participate in our regular school program. These children do not study because school schedules are inflexible around their employment in the streets of Cusco washing cars, and selling postcards, cigarettes, crafts, etc. For this specific group of children we offer a special program
Seventy percent of the normal program will be offered in special autodidact materials. In this way the children working in the streets will be able to create a special schedule around their work. We will however continue to teach thirty percent of the classes to students in this alternative program in traditional form. This means the students will come to our school “SAN GABRIEL” one day a week in order that adequate guidance and control can be maintained.

OUR CERTIFICATION AND STATUS AS A SCHOOL
According to the “DIRECCION REGIONAL DE EDUCACION DE CUSCO - PERÚ” (this is the institution that gives permission for new schools, supervises/evaluates the quality of education, and generally designates a school as “official” in Peru) our school is the only one in Cusco currently offering this type of education. This program allows students to GET an OFFICIAL CERTIFICATE for their studies equal to one they could get in any public or private school in Peru. This is important so they are able to continue their studies in another school or in the universities or institutes of top educational quality if they wish to pursue higher degrees.Because of this we believe we are an example for future groups and projects, in order that they too can imitate this project, helping the community as a whole. We are convinced our work will be successful, simply because we believe in this method of teaching.
