THE QUISPE LAURA FAMILY
This is the family that lives closest to the Project. The family live in a house which they look after for the absent owner who lives in Lima. The life of this family has changed dramatically since the death of their mother. Seven months ago she decided to commit suicide because she was having trouble with her husband and also with her family. At first, their father didn´t cope too well with caring for the children as a lone parent; he would often drink a lot and then arrive home very late. Nowadays, he works hard and cares for his family, but he does not have much time. Like many Peruvians he works hard and earns little money. He works as a baker all through the night, spends part of the morning distributing the bread, sleeps during the day and then does not have much time to see the children.

David, 5 years old and nicknamed "El Gato", studies at our "Garden" project. When his mother was alive he was very active and very outgoing. After the tragedy he hardly ever spoke and always sat alone. However, thanks to a group of his friends within the Project and thanks to the love of the teachers and volunteers, he is gradually changing and now is almost the same joyful child he was befote. He will always remember his good friends, Matt and Greg, two very excellent volunteers who were very close to him.
Personally, I would like to sincerely thank these volunteers who loved their time with the Project and helped many children, especially "El Gato". He always recalls his friends as "big and strong." He and all children are always asking about when they will return.

Yushara, 12 years old, has been part of the project for two years now. She is a very strong character and has taken on the responsibility to care for her father and brother since her mother died. She acts like a mother to her younger brother David and he has a lot of love and respect for her. She did not have time to be sad and mourn for her mother because that is how life goes for people living in poverty. These people simply do not have time to be sad, they will always have to worry about where their next meal will come from, and if they do not work, they don´t eat, it is a fact of life. Yushara had to cook, clean, do the washing and care for her brother and her father, everything immediately after the death of her mother, simple because there was nobody else there to do it. Well, at least now she does not need to cook thanks to the project of the "COMEDOR POPULAR", with this help she will have more time to do her homework.
